Standards & Policies

The Center’s AI Standards and Policies provide a practical, human-centered framework that helps schools adopt AI with clarity and confidence. The standards are structured around three stakeholder groups—students, families, and school personnel—so expectations are consistent across learning, home–school partnership, and professional practice. Rather than focusing on restrictions, the framework defines what “good use” looks like, distinguishing minimal, standard, and encouraged practices to support safe adoption while enabling meaningful innovation.
Across all three groups, the standards address seven shared dimensions: Ethical & Social Implications, Application & Context of Use, AI Literacy (AI “alphabetization”), Cognitive Extension, Data, Privacy & Safety, Human–AI (protecting wellbeing, identity, and relationships as AI enters daily life), and Governance & Responsibility. Together, these dimensions ensure AI is used not as a shortcut or replacement for human judgment, but as a disciplined, transparent, and equitable way to extend learning and professional capacity—while safeguarding what remains uniquely human at the heart of education.
