OpenAI launches education plugins for ChatGPT Work and Codex
OpenAI introduced role-specific plugins for K–12 educators, college educators, and college students. The plugins combine apps, skills, instructions, and common workflows so users can work with approved course materials and tools without building complex prompts from scratch.
IES says rigorous evidence is still limited — and human mediation matters
A new U.S. Institute of Education Sciences review stresses that strong causal evidence on current AI tools remains scarce. The emerging pattern is more promising when AI augments teachers or tutoring, while general-purpose AI can weaken learning when it replaces cognitive effort.
Denmark adds oral defenses to protect assessment integrity
Danish upper-secondary students will have to orally defend major written assignments, while schools are being encouraged to move more writing into supervised settings and strengthen controls during exams.
Meridian Public Schools adopts district AI guidance
The Michigan district approved guidance covering AI literacy, academic integrity, plagiarism, professional educator use, and approved platforms. Google Gemini and SchoolAI were selected as district tools, with a gradual implementation approach.
Katy ISD introduces age-based AI permissions
Katy ISD’s new framework prohibits generative AI from kindergarten through grade 6, permits guided use in grades 7–8, and allows high-school use with disclosure, citation, and verification requirements.
San Antonio AI literacy pilot shows mixed results
Four middle schools used Coursemojo to support reading and writing. Some campuses improved, but gains were uneven and many students remained below grade level. Researchers emphasized that the tool worked best as an addition to teacher-led instruction.
College students use more AI — and ask for clearer ethical guidance
American University research reported a sharp rise in regular AI use among business students. Students increasingly view AI as a workplace skill, while also expressing concern about academic integrity, dependence, and the loss of independent thinking.
PISA 2029 will assess Media and Artificial Intelligence Literacy
The OECD’s new innovative domain will assess whether 15-year-olds can engage effectively, ethically, and critically with digital content, media platforms, and AI systems, including evaluating credibility, understanding AI’s role, and acting responsibly.
Mendoza scales AI-supported learning across secondary schools
Mendoza reported using AI-enabled platforms in 120 secondary schools to reinforce Mathematics, Language, and Science, alongside teacher guides, evaluation, connectivity investment, and an AI Operator course for older students.
Homework is being redesigned for an AI-rich world
